Version 0 of 1.

Edinburgh City Council's leader has made an apology on behalf of the local authority to the families affected by the Mortonhall baby ashes scandal.

Andrew Burns was at a special council meeting earlier where an action plan of 22 points to be taken was agreed unanimously.

The investigation into Mortonhall Crematorium by Dame Eilish Angiolini was formally accepted by councillors.

The investigation was formally received by the council earlier.

Sue Bruce, Edinburgh City Council chief executive, said the working group set up to deal with the investigation into baby ashes would meet until all interested parties were satisfied the actions taken were embedded in the council's policy and culture.

She said she wanted "never to have to return to the Chamber to have a similar conversation" in the future.

A memorial to remember the hundreds of babies whose ashes were not given to their parents in Edinburgh is being planned for the Meadows.

Parents are to be consulted later this year on the design and location of the memorial.

Bruntsfield Links, Princes Street Gardens and Mortonhall are also being considered as possible locations.
