A man has been arrested after a taxi driver and elderly woman were attacked with a knife in South Lanarkshire. A man has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder a taxi driver and elderly woman in South Lanarkshire.
The 44-year-old driver was assaulted in Eastfield Avenue, Cambuslang, at about 19:50 on Friday. James McFarlane is accused of striking Andrew Burns, 44, with a knife in Glenburn Avenue, Cambuslang, on Friday and then stealing his car.
He got out of the car and the suspect drove off before the vehicle was found abandoned in Morar Drive. A 68-year-old woman was later attacked in Dukes Road. The 33-year-old, from Rutherglen, is also charged with striking 68-year-old Jean Evans with a knife in Dukes Road.
A 33-year-old man has been arrested and is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday. He made no plea or declaration during a private appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody.
It is believed that the taxi driver and woman who were attacked are still being treated in hospital.
The suspect was also taken to hospital following the incident.
