Version 0 of 1.

Part of the M25 was forced to close after three horses went scampering around the carriageway.

The animals managed to escape from a field adjacent to the anti-clockwise section between junctions 27 and 28 on the east London-Essex border.

The motorway was closed in both directions for about 35 minutes on Wednesday morning while the horses were ushered back into the field.

The closure caused large tailbacks but the London motorway has now re-opened.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said the horses on the road were reported at 0920 GMT and the motorway was closed about 20 minutes later.

She said the agency's traffic units and police then managed to get the horses back into a field.

She said: "This is not an everyday occurrence but we do have some experience of animals on motorways."
