A 38-year-old male pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Shetland in the early hours. A man has appeared in court after a pedestrian died when he was hit by a car on Sunday.

The driver of the car is in custody and due to appear in court on Monday. John James Daniel Pottinger, 20, appeared in court on charges of causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The B9074 at Hamnavoe was restricted to one lane for accident investigations. Police were appealing for witnesses. He made no plea and was released on bail.
