Greek officials said Friday that a record 1.1 tons of heroin were seized and 11 people arrested east of Athens in a joint operation with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration. The Greek merchant marine minister, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, said it was the largest quantity of heroin ever seized in the country.
