Colin Fitton, managing director of the Moorhead Group which owns the van, said he was relieved the driver had not been badly injured.
He said: "We're very relieved that the driver has escaped.
"He has superficial burns to his hands and the back of his head."
Mr Fitton said the un-named driver was the only person in the van.
He also confirmed the van was carrying gas-filled cylinders and an investigation into the cause of the fire and explosion was being carried out.
