Hospital workers in Londonderry have walked out in a row over workload.

More than 70 medical secretaries are involved in the strike action at Altnagelvin Hospital. Nipsa said the action was over a ban on overtime.

It came as Nipsa classroom assistants across Northern Ireland prepared to return to the picket line on Monday.

It is the second of a series of two-day strikes due to last until at least Christmas. Their ongoing dispute is over pay and conditions.

Last week, some schools organised a rota system to accommodate high risk pupils.

Assistants have apologised to parents but say that they are determined to continue with the action.

Last month, a 10-day strike by classroom assistants shut more than half of special schools.

Subsequent talks with employers at the Labour Relations Agency failed.
