Andy Murray eased into the defence of his Queen’s title with a routine straight-sets victory over Paul-Henri Mathieu. The reigning Queen’s and Wimbledon champion will now face the 15th seed Radek Stepanek in the third round, after negotiating his way past Mathieu to win 6-4, 6-4. Murray enjoyed a leisurely first training session with his new coach Amélie Mauresmo on Wednesday morning, before the former Australian Open and Wimbledon champion took a watching brief for her new client’s straightforward victory. Murray might have been eclipsed by the eventual champion Rafael Nadal in the French Open semi-finals, but Mathieu beat Aljaz Bedene 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 in the first round to set up his clash with Murray. The 32-year-old current world number 92 has moved as high as 12 in his career, but was unable to bring that pedigree to bear against Murray. |
