Douglas, who plays Hank Pym in the film, said he felt for the British director but expected him to bounce back. Wright quit Ant-Man last month, after eight years of development, due to creative differences with the studio Marvel.
"I was, very disappointed," Douglas said in a video interview published on the Schmoes Know website. "I'm a big fan of his movies [and] it's a very disappointing situation." | "I was, very disappointed," Douglas said in a video interview published on the Schmoes Know website. He added: "It happened very late in the game [and] I don't think anybody's quite recovered," continuing, "My heart goes out to Edgar. He's been involved with the project for a long time, but he's talented enough that you'll be hearing a whole lot from him, and I'm sure with a little vengeance." | He added: "It happened very late in the game [and] I don't think anybody's quite recovered," continuing, "My heart goes out to Edgar. Wright's departure from a project he helped create has proven a rare shot of negative publicity for Marvel, the hugely successful Disney-owned studio behind blockbusters such as The Avengers and Iron Man 3. On Saturday the company revealed that Peyton Reed, whose last film as a director was the middling 2008 Jim Carrey comedy Yes Man, had been hired to replace Wright. Anchorman's Adam McKay will retool the screenplay, itself the source of disagreements between Wright and Marvel. Reports suggest it was an independent rewrite of the script, which the Hot Fuzz director had been working on with fellow Briton Joe Cornish for the best part of a decade, that led to Wright walking.
Marvel also issued a synopsis for Ant-Man, which stars Paul Rudd in the title role and is still being targeted for a July 2015 release date. It reads: "Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world"
Wright has received support from The Avengers' Joss Whedon and James Gunn, director of Marvel's much-hyped Guardians of the Galaxy. The latter wrote on Facebook: "Sometimes you have friends in a relationship. You love each of them dearly as individuals and think they're amazing people. But little by little you realise, at heart, they aren't meant to be together."
