Derelict house fire 'deliberate' Family is left homeless by arson
(30 minutes later)
A fire at a derelict house in Antrim is being treated as arson by police. A family in Antrim has been left homeless after an arson attack on a neighbouring derelict house.
The fire in a garden shed at the house in Rathkyle set an oil tank alight and caused extensive damage. A garden shed was set alight at the back of the house at Rathkyle in the Stiles estate at about 2300 GMT.
Two neighbouring houses were also damaged. Burning oil from the tank melted the PVC windows in one house and forced the family out. It spread to an oil tank, causing extensive damage to the vacant property and two adjacent houses.
The Fire Service are investigating the cause of the blaze, which was reported at about 2300 GMT on Friday. Antrim Mayor Adrian Watson said: "After watching the images in Omagh, it's hard to think why anyone would attack a house like this."
The family had to leave their home after burning oil melted the PVC windows.
Police and the Fire Service have begun an investigation into the cause of the blaze, which detectives say is being treated as arson.
