Man, 51, charged with Berkhamsted 1984 sex attacks

Paul Drinkwater, 51, of no fixed address, was arrested in Maidenhead, in connection with attacks in Berkhamsted in 1984. They include an attack on 25 November when it is alleged a 15-year-old girl was seriously sexually assaulted at knifepoint in the Durrants Lane area. They also include knifepoint attacks on two 18-year-olds on 16 December. The attacks are alleged to have taken place in the Bullbeggars Lane area. Following consultation with the Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service, detectives charged Mr Drinkwater with false imprisonment, indecent assault, rape, robbery and possession of an offensive weapon in relation to the November incident, said Hertfordshire Police. In relation to the December incidents he has been charged with two counts of false imprisonment, indecent assault, rape, robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. He is due to appear before Hatfield Remand Court. A Hertfordshire Police spokesman said: "Officers would like to appeal to anyone who may have any information about this series of assaults to contact them." |
