Staff were threatened with a knife and special tools were used to smash open display cabinets during the robbery at Hamilton and Inches on George Street. | |
It happened at about 11:30. Three men were involved, with a fourth man driving a white BMW in which the gang fled the scene. | |
Police described the raid as a "violent robbery" and appealed for witnesses. | |
The suspects were seen driving east along George Street, down Howe Street and along Heriot Row, after the incident. | |
The car was recovered by police a short time later and was being forensically examined. | |
Det Insp Carol Craig, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are currently investigating this violent robbery, which put several people in a state of fear and alarm, and I would appeal for anyone who witnessed this incident and has not already spoken to us to contact Police Scotland on 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11." |
