Version 0 of 1.

With the Monty Python Live reunion shows at the O2 arena edging ever closer, we've been wondering: what is the best Monty Python film incarnation? Here are the five choices; we'd love to hear your order of preference in the comments thread below.

And Now for Something Completely Different (1971)

The first of the Monty Python films was produced to try to break the team in America. Sketches from the first two seasons of Monty Python's Flying Circus were included: Upper Class Twit of the Year, Dead Parrot and Self-Defence Class (seen below).

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

The Holy Grail was produced between the third and fourth series of the TV show. Based on Arthurian legend, the film was directed by Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam, and made for just £229,000, with backing from Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and Led Zeppelin. Rock'n'roll.

Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979)

Probably the most celebrated of all the Python films, Life of Brian caused a stir at the time by poking fun at followers of organised religion – see John Cleese and Michael Palin's notorious TV face-off with Malcolm Muggeridge and the Bishop of Southwark, in which the Python's strenuously defend their corner against accusations of blasphemy.

Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl (1982)

As you might infer from the title, this was a recording of their live Hollywood Bowl show, composed of sketches from the television series. One of the highlights is this performance of the Argument Clinic with Michael Palin and John Cleese. There was also music included from the Monty Python Contractual Obligation Album.

Monty Python's The Meaning of Life (1983)

By far the darkest thing the Python's ever did. Roughly charting the course of life birth to death, the film is full of black humour and violent and/or gross comedy moments. It also represented the last time all six original Pythons collaborated.
