Version 0 of 1.

Police have started an investigation into a sexual assault carried out in a Glasgow park.

Officers said they want to speak to anyone who may have seen the attack on a 35-year-old woman in Kelvingrove Park at about 21:45 on Friday.

The man who carried out the assault is thought to have run off in the direction of the Western Infirmary.

The officer in charge of the inquiry said it had been a "very frightening" incident.

Det Insp Douglas Robertson said: "We are carrying out extensive enquiries including viewing CCTV in order to trace the man responsible for this assault.

"At this time, I would like to reassure the public that there is nothing to suggest that this incident is linked to any other sexual assault. There are additional officers carrying out high visibility patrols in the area and anyone with concerns should speak to an officer.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who was in or near Kelvingrove Park on Friday night between 2100 and 2200 hours to get in touch, particularly anyone who saw a man similar to the description issued."

The suspect was 35-45 years old, about 5'7" tall and is overweight.

He is described as having a tanned, Mediterranean or Asian complexion.

At the time of the assault he was wearing a red and grey outdoor style jacket and dark trousers and was carrying a small grey rucksack.

Anyone with information can contact the police on their 101 number, or speak anonymously to Crimestoppers.
