A man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of 39-year-old Joseph McCulloch, in Renfrewshire, at the weekend.

Joseph McCulloch died after being attacked in Johnstone in the early hours of Sunday following a night out.

Kenneth Williamson, 32, from Johnstone, was also charged with the attempted murder of Mr McCulloch's 37-year-old wife, Jeanette.

He made no plea or declaration during an appearance at Paisley Sheriff Court.

The charge alleges that Mr Williamson repeatedly stabbed Mr McCulloch on the body with a knife or similar instrument, and murdered him.
