http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/27/world/africa/congo-un-protests-expulsions.html Version 0 of 1. United Nations officials on Monday demanded a halt to the expulsion of tens of thousands of citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo from the neighboring Congo Republic and called for an investigation into allegations of human rights violations. A United Nations statement said that more than 130,000 Congolese had been ejected from Brazzaville, the Congo Republic’s capital, since April and that the United Nations had received reports of abuse and sexual violence against those being expelled. The government in Brazzaville says the operation is aimed at cleaning up the city and deterring criminal gangs. |
