Jailed voyeur teacher Gareth Williams sacked, says council

A deputy head teacher who was jailed for five years after he admitted filming pupils in the toilets of his school has been formally dismissed, Cardiff Council has confirmed.

Gareth Williams, 47, was jailed after admitting 31 charges including voyeurism and making indecent photos.

Cardiff Council, Williams' employer, said he was now no longer employed by Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf.

His contract was terminated on Monday when he was sentenced.

On Wednesday the authority said they would take "appropriate action" now the criminal case against Williams had been completed.

Williams was believed to earn around £65,000 a year.

'Contract terminated'

He was arrested on 23 January after police raided his home following information from police in Canada that Williams had used a credit card to pay for material from a child sex abuse images website based there.

They discovered material on his computer which showed footage of pupils at Ysgol Glantaf using the toilets in a changing room block, and some in two private homes.

Williams initially pleaded guilty to three charges of voyeurism on 31 January.

He admitted 28 additional charges at a hearing in April.

On Saturday a City of Cardiff Council spokesperson said: "The process in relation to Mr Williams has now concluded and he is no longer employed by Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf.

"The contract terminated on the day he was sentenced."
