http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-27530901 Version 0 of 1. A Welsh Elvis fan has died after being knocked down by a car while visiting her idol's American homeland. Minutes earlier, Andrea Baker, 54, from Pembrokeshire, was being serenaded by her favourite Elvis impersonator as she celebrated her birthday in Memphis. The car driver did not stop at the scene of the incident on 17 May and Ms Baker died two days later in hospital. Fellow Elvis fans are now trying to raise £6,500 to bring her body back home to Haverfordwest. Ms Baker, who was a member of more than 100 Elvis fan pages on Facebook, had been to see her favourite impersonator, Joe Kent, after meeting other fans at Elvis's former home of Graceland. 'So sad' He sang Happy Birthday to her and she later left the group to check birthday messages from her family back home. She was crossing East Brooks Road when she was hit by a driver, who left the scene. Impersonator Mr Kent said he hugged Ms Baker before leaving her in a hotel parking lot. "She evidently went back in the hotel and got on their computer in the lobby," he said. "Then she must have gone back outside. That's when it happened. "It's just so sad - I am just crushed." A Foreign Office spokesman said they were aware of the death of a British national on 19 May in the United States and were providing consular assistance to the family. |
