Elderly blind man assaulted in 'unprovoked attack' on London train

Version 0 of 1. An elderly blind man has been dragged to the ground in an "unprovoked" attack on a London train. British Transport Police officers have issued CCTV images of a man they want speak to after the assault on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). The incident took place at around 8.20pm on 1 May, after the victim boarded the train at Woolwich Arsenal. During the journey the victim, who was 80 years old, was approached by a passenger who had been sitting opposite him. Shortly before the train pulled into Canning Town station, the man grabbed the victim’s shoulder and pulled him to the floor. British Transport Police want to speak to this man The victim was helped to his feet by other passengers and left the train at Canning Town, as did the attacker. PC Paul Read said: “Thankfully the elderly man wasn’t seriously injured as a result of the assault, but the attack was sudden and unprovoked. “Enquiries to date have enabled me to isolate the image of a man I believe has vital information about the incident and I urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who recognises the man to contact us.” Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. |
