Five fire engines were sent to the terminal just after 1715 GMT but were soon stood down. Seven fire engines were sent to the terminal but were soon stood down as the plane landed safely.
A BAA spokeswoman said the prince seemed in good spirits and would be continuing with his engagements. The jet was taking the prince from RAF Lossiemouth in Moray to an engagement in the Scottish capital.
Prince Andrew was expected to attend a dinner at Holyroodhouse hosted by Scottish Development International.
Fire crew
The prince's press secretary said: "The aircraft experienced a jammed elevator trim.
"The pilot made a precautionary distress call since the condition could have resulted in the controls becoming heavy during landing.
"The landing, at 5.35pm, was uneventful. A full fire crew turned out atEdinburgh Airport.
"His Royal Highness and the crew and passengers were at no stage in any risk."
A Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman confirmed seven fire engines had been sent to the airport but had not been required to take any action.
