Version 0 of 1.

A 12-year-old boy who attacked a four-year-old with a brick has admitting an offence of wounding.

The young child suffered a fractured skull and injuries to his ear and had to undergo reconstructive surgery.

He was found injured by a passer-by on 24 August 2006 in a field near Station Road in Hessle, Hull.

His attacker was given a 12-month referral order at Beverley Youth Court on Tuesday. Neither boy can be named for legal reasons.

Det Ch Insp Christine Kelk, who led the enquiry, said: "This is a case of a very young child being viciously attacked by another much older and stronger boy.

"It is still not clear why he was attacked in this way, but at least the boy responsible has accepted his guilt in the offence.

"I hope this conviction sends out a message out to all bullies that their behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated."
