Arrests after boy's air gun death Air rifle death 'tragic accident'

A 17-year-old boy has died after an incident involving an air rifle, and two men have been arrested. Police say the death of a 17-year-old boy who was shot with an air rifle seems to have been a "tragic accident".
Gwent Police say the two men are in custody after the death at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport. Two teenagers, aged 18 and 16, who were arrested after the death of Danny Marsh in Newport, have been released on bail, pending further inquiries.
The incident happened at 1830 GMT on Sunday in the Maesglas area of Newport and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Gwent Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting in Maesglas on Sunday evening.
A police spokesman said: "The investigation is still in its early stages." Danny's relatives called him an "adored son and brother" who was "loved by all his family".

"We are now in the process of investigating exactly what the circumstances were." Neighbours spoke of Danny and the two other teenagers shooting rabbits in the hours before the incident.
Danny was visiting his grandmother at the house in Maesglas Road when he staggered injured into the street and collapsed about 70 yards along the road at about 1830 GMT.
One resident tried to give him life-saving treatment before the emergency services arrived.
"One of my neighbours tried to give him CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) but he said there was a wound to his chest and he thought he was dead," said a resident.
"It's an absolute tragedy. Such a waste of a young life."
Paramedics tried to revive Danny as they took him the short distance to the hospital. Staff there continued to try to save his life, but could not.

In a statement, his family said: "Danny was an adored son and brother.
"He was loved by all of his family and was popular and respected wherever he went. He was a good, respectful boy just beginning his life.
"We worshipped the ground he walked on and he was our world. We miss him so much. He was a boy who loved his family and was his sister's adored brother.
"We now need the time to come to terms with our terrible loss and would appreciate the privacy to do so and to be left alone in peace at this time".
Neighbours and family friends spoke of their shock at the death of a "good lad."

Julie Edwards, who lives near Danny's family, said: "All I heard was that there had been a shooting. It seems he was in the shed and the gun went off. It's just terrible."
Patricia Murphy, another neighbour, said: "I heard he staggered up the road where he collapsed outside number 55 and died in the street. It's absolutely dreadful, a young boy like that, so innocent."
Prayers were held at Danny's former school, St Joseph's Roman Catholic High School in the city, which he left a year ago.
Deputy head teacher Paddy Landers said: "Danny was a very popular boy at St Joseph's. He always had a smile on his face and was keen to do well.
"He will be sadly missed by the whole community at St Joseph's."
Police said they were trying to establish the circumstances, and the air weapon had been recovered from the scene.

The officer leading the investigation said the incident appeared to be a "tragic accident".
Det Insp Dave Edwards continued: "However, a full investigation needs to take place to make sure the facts are known and to identify whether any offences have been committed as a result of this tragic incident".
Danny suffered a ruptured artery in his chest after a pellet entered his body.
Gwent Police have urged people to be aware of the dangers of weapons like air rifles and said that new laws meant that someone over the age of 21 had to be present when an air rifle was being handled.
Officers are trying to establish what happened and whether any offences were committed.
