Janette May Grocutt, 74, originally from Cornwall, was found dead in the village of Paredon, near Alicante. Her bedridden husband, Douglas, listened to the attack on Friday evening but was unable to help. The BBC's Danny Wood said Spanish investigators believe Mrs Grocutt was killed while fighting off thieves who were ransacking her home. Treatment Police believe the attackers knew the condition of Mr Grocutt would prevent him from intervening. He was not injured, but was taken to hospital and treated for shock. The elderly couple, who run a campsite, are believed to have moved from Cornwall to Spain about six years ago. A spokesman for the Foreign Office said Mrs Grocutt's family had been informed of her death. |
