Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust said on Twitter: "We are receiving the more seriously injured from the collision in Looe; a small number, less than 10 currently." Terry Perring, who lives nearby, said: "I was told that the driver had problems with the brakes as he came past the Snooty Fox public house at the top of the hill.
"He'd been trying to stop the coach, I suppose, by running it into the hedge all the way down the hill this far."
He said he could see people being treated by paramedics in the road.
"The rest of the emergency services had a staging alongside the coach and were taking out the windows of the coach and the seats to extract other passengers.
"But we didn't have any idea at all what sort of injuries or anything anybody had at that time."
