Version 0 of 1.

Ann Maguire died from "shock and haemorrhage" after being stabbed in her neck, an inquest has heard.

At the opening of the inquiry this morning, Leeds Coroner's Court was told the teacher suffered a number of stab wounds.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Wallen, of West Yorkshire Police, said a cut that severed her jugular vein was the fatal injury.

Mrs Maguire, 61, died after she was attacked during a Spanish lesson at Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds on 28 April.

She was months away from retiring after a career spanning 40 years.

Her husband and two daughters called her their "shining light" in a statement.

"We are devastated. Her selfless, genuine, caring nature will remain with us eternally.

"We are overwhelmed by the support, sympathy and kind tributes we have received, they have been a source of great comfort at this dark time."

A 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with her murder and is due to stand trial in November.
