Egg and sperm donor plea succeeds
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/scotland/north_east/7085636.stm Version 0 of 1. An appeal from childless couples in the north east of Scotland for egg and sperm donors has seen more than 30 "serious" inquiries about helping. Men between 18 and 45 and women between 18 and 35, willing to donate sperm or eggs to 40 couples waiting for treatment, are being sought. The fertility centre in Aberdeen launched the search this week. So far 34 inquiries about helping have been made from the city as well as Cardiff, Leeds, Glasgow and Fife. Fertility staff said they were pleased with the response so far. The people will be contacted, given information packs, and invited for discussion and counselling in the coming months. Recipients are now having to wait up to two years for treatment. Donors must be fit and healthy and have no strong family history of any medical problem. Ideally they are men and women who have completed their own family and feel able to help others who cannot have children without the aid of donation.
