All schools in Orkney have been closed and hundreds of homes have lost power because of bad weather sweeping parts of the country. About 200 homes in Orkney have been left without electricity after storms damaged power lines.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has also issued a warning for the north of Lewis where high winds were predicted with gusts of up to 80mph. A spokeswoman for Scottish Hydro Electric said engineers would begin work at first light on Friday to reconnect those affected.
Northlink cancelled sailings between Lerwick and Aberdeen. At one point some 20,000 homes across northern Scotland were left without electricity due to the weather.
The storms also disrupted road travel and hit ferry services in Shetland and the Western Isles.
