Version 0 of 1.

The newspapers give extensive coverage to the Queen's Speech and the policies it set out for the coming year.

The Daily Mirror gives a warm welcome for the programme, saying that "Premier Brown has found his voice again".

However, the Daily Telegraph said the few "notable elements" seemed "scarcely to amount to the birth of a distinctly Brownite 'vision'".

The announcements were described as "predictable, purposeful and unglamorous" by the Guardian.

The Sun, Daily Mail and the Daily Express all lead on the inquiry into the murder of British student Meredith Kercher in Italy.

Her American housemate is reported to have confessed to having taken part in her killing.

The Express talks of the police trying to piece together the final moments of a shocking tragedy.

Incitement opposition

About 6,000 cancers a year in women are the result of putting on weight, according to a study in the Guardian.

Actor and writer Rowan Atkinson has sent a letter to the Times opposing plans outlawing incitement to hatred against homosexuals.

He argues the proposal is unnecessary, sad and futile.

The Sun says it has found at least six key witnesses who say they were not asked to testify at the inquest into the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

It says the jury was told the paparazzi who chased Diana had just refused to attend the court proceedings.

Eye have it

The Telegraph reports how scientists have found how to make yourself look attractive to another person.

The secret, it says, is simply to look them in the eye and smile, which will make a person seem up to eight times more attractive.

The Mirror reports how a tiny sketch on the back of a cigarette packet is expected to reach £4,000.

This is because it was scribbled by artist LS Lowry at some time in the 1930s, who then gave it to a friend.
