Benitez unfazed by United defeat
(about 2 hours later) | |
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez refused to dwell on his side's sorry defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Reds have scored just one away goal - a penalty - in the Premiership this season and they rarely looked like scoring in the 2-0 defeat to United.
"Away from home, we have had a lot of attempts but we are not creating clear chances. That's the key," said Benitez.
"It's hard when you lose, especially against United, but we can't change it. All we can do is look ahead."
United, now 11 points ahead pf Liverpool, went ahead towards the end of the first half through Paul Scholes, who scored on his 500th appearance for the club.
"I think we played really well, although we have played better this season," said the 31-year-old midfielder.
"The most important thing was to beat Liverpool and go a good few points clear of them, as well as staying up there with Chelsea."
On his landmark appearance, Scholes added: "It didn't feel any different. It was just a game - and one we had to win." |
