A 68-year-old man cut a woman's throat with a kitchen knife and threatened to kill her, the High Court has heard.

Joseph Moore, from Innisfree Gardens, Strabane, is accused of wounding with intent, making a threat to kill and false imprisonment.

A prosecution lawyer said the alleged offences happened last week after he and the woman had been drinking.

He said Mr Moore was an alcoholic who had been on his fourth bottle of wine when he attacked the woman.

The woman had told police that Mr Moore cut her throat before threatening her and locking her in the house where they had been drinking.

The lawyer said she had escaped by climbing out a kitchen window. Mr Moore was released on £1,500 bail, ordered to stay out of Strabane and told to live with his daughter.

He was also warned to have no contact with the woman and stay off alcohol.
