SWEDEN: Elliphant – Revolusion | SWEDEN: Elliphant – Revolusion |
The Line of Best Fit: Revolusion, the latest effort from Sweden’s Ellinor Olovsdotter, sticks to the tightly wound dancehall beats we’ve come to know and love whilst also delving further into glitchy electronic territory. Her predilection for catchy pop hooks can still be found in the anthemic, rallying chorus cries but first and foremost this is a track to move your body to. If the beats alone aren’t enough to convince you of that then the above video should be as Elliphant fuses her demanding vocals with choreographed perfection. Lauren Down

FRANCE: DyE feat. Angie David – Cocktail Citron | FRANCE: DyE feat. Angie David – Cocktail Citron |
FILLES SOURIRES: DyE is the nom de plume of French producer Juan de Guillebon, who gained notoriety via the extreme video of his track Fantasy (47 million views, and counting). New album Cocktail Citron is out on the hip Parisian label Tigersushi. DyE stands for neon-coloured neo-disco – if you’re into Erol Alkan, Joakim, Egyptian Lover (he’s on the new album as well), this is your thing. Guuz Hoogaerts

AUSTRALIA: Holiday Sidewinder – Carousel | AUSTRALIA: Holiday Sidewinder – Carousel |
Faster Louder: Former Bridezilla frontwoman Holiday Sidewinder announced her return to music in January, telling fans that she was starting work on a record that will “increase the national birth rate by at least 1%, have security guards whistling to themselves in a quiet hour and factory workers humming in the line.”
Our first taste of this album is ‘Carousel’, a languid retro-pop jam that springs to life with jaunty Hammond organ and Sidewinder’s unmistakable honey vocals. There’s something a little Xanadu. Sarah Anne Smith
IRELAND: Raglans – (Lady) Roll back The Years | IRELAND: Raglans – (Lady) Roll back The Years |
SerenityB: Dublin indie rockers Raglans have been making waves across the Irish music scene lately. Positive reviews are coming thick and fast following their smash Academy gig a few weeks ago. We’ve seen them live, and we can tell you these guys are tight. Here’s the main single from their debut album Raglans. We can’t get it out of our heads. Orlagh Bailey

JAPAN: Kenta Maeno – Nee, Taxi | JAPAN: Kenta Maeno – Nee, Taxi |
Clear and Refreshing: Nee, Taxi is a textbook contemporary example of the style of the style of folk/singer-songwriter music that flooded Japan in the early 1970s, by one of this current generation’s most talented and versatile songwriters. Largely out of fashion now, Kenta Maeno nonetheless dives headfirst into the genre, recreating with the utmost sincerity and affection the bittersweet melodrama, with both his vocals and the music itself shifting in and out of its own rhythmical constraints. While the songwriting is deeply rooted in the 1970s Japanese folk tradition of artists — in particular the legendary Yosui Inoue — Maeno’s approach, aided by producer and musical collaborator Jim O’Rourke, also owes a great deal to contemporary alternative and alt-folk in its delivery.
