Falling tree kills man at party

Krzysztof Kopacz was hit as he tried to chop the tree down for extra firewood at the party at a nursing home in Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester. Lancashire Police were called to The Cliffe at Stubbins Vale Road on Saturday night. A spokesman said Mr Kopacz, who lived in Radcliffe, was one of a number of Polish workers who were working on renovations at the residential home. Wood ran out He had travelled to the party as several of his fellow workers live at the site, police said. Paramedics tried to treat Mr Kopacz at the scene, but he died of his injuries. Police said he had started to cut the tree down when wood for the bonfire ran out at the home, which is on the border of Lancashire and Greater Manchester.
