Boy, 15, killed in party attack Man is charged with party murder
(1 day later)
A murder inquiry has been opened after a 15-year-old boy died in hospital following an attack at a party. An 18-year-old man has been charged with killing a teenage boy at a Halloween party.
The boy was one of two teenagers found with head injuries after police were called to a flat in Horsham, West Sussex, early on Saturday. Police charged Richard McGarvey Martin, from Heath Way, Horsham, West Sussex, with the murder of Ricky Butler, who was 15-years-old.
He was taken to hospital but later died. The other youth, a 16-year-old, had less serious injuries. He died in a nunchuk attack at the party, in Horsham, on Saturday morning.
Sussex Police said they had arrested an 18-year-old local man in connection with the attacks. The victim was taken to hospital following the attack, where he died. Nunchuks are made up of two sticks connected with a short chain or rope.
Det Ch Insp Adam Hibbert said: "This was a very serious assault involving persons who had been attending a party in Gorringes Brook. The dead youngster was one of two teenagers found with head injuries after police were called to the address in Horsham early on Saturday.
"We believe those involved may know each other and this does not appear to have been a random stranger-type attack." The other youth, a 16-year-old, needed stitches for his injuries.
Anyone who attended the party, where the attacks happened at about 0200 GMT, is asked to contact police or Crimestoppers. Officers identified the 15-year-old, who lived in Leith View Road, Roffey, Horsham, on Sunday evening.
There were about 15 people aged in their early 20s and late teens at the fancy dress party when police arrived.
