The family of a boy murdered a year ago will take part in a series of events marking the anniversary of his death.

Eugene Attram, 16, died when he was stabbed in Mitcham, south London, as he made his way to a fireworks display.

On Saturday a memorial bench dedicated to the teenager will be blessed in the Rose Gardens in Battersea Park.

A remembrance service will be held at West Croydon Methodist Church on Sunday followed by flower-laying at the scene of the fatal fight.

Running away

Police have interviewed 650 people and arrested 24 youths over the killing but no-one has been charged with the murder.

Eugene, from Thornton Heath, south London, was walking with friends to a fireworks display on 4 November when a gang approached and a fight broke out.

Four youths, including Eugene, were stabbed during the fight that involved up to 60 youths, some armed with bats and pieces of wood.

Eugene had been running away from the brawl when he was cornered and stabbed in the chest. The three others survived.

I am appealing to the parents of those involved - your sons must have told you what happened Det Insp Alison Hepworth

Police do not believe the 16-year-old had ever been involved in gang violence before that night.

Renewing appeals for information Det Insp Alison Hepworth said the parents of those involved may hold the key to bringing the culprit to justice.

She said: "I'm sure that those involved can't have wanted someone to die as a result of the fight and we are appealing to their consciences.

"Also I am appealing to the parents of those involved. Your sons must have told you what happened."

Ms Hepworth said three youths, who were seen at the scene but had not yet come forward, may be vital witnesses.

She said: "These three young men appear to have been onlookers. They are described as one white, one black and one light-skinned.

"They were wearing shin pads and could have just come from a football match. One was believed to be wearing bright blue or red shorts."
