Israel: Airstrikes in Gaza Follow Militants’ Rocket Attacks
Version 0 of 1. Israeli military aircraft carried out multiple airstrikes in the Gaza Strip early Friday, the Israeli military and Palestinian officials said, after militants fired four rockets into southern Israel late Thursday. The airstrikes hit open fields and training camps of Palestinian militant groups, including sites run by Hamas, the Islamic movement controlling Gaza. Two Palestinians, a man and a child, were injured in one of the airstrikes near their home in Gaza City, said Ashraf al-Qedra, a spokesman for Gaza’s Health Ministry. There were no reports of casualties from the Palestinian rocket attacks in southern Israel, according to the Israeli news media. Taher al-Nounou, an adviser to Ismail Haniya, Hamas’s prime minister in Gaza, accused Israel of escalating the confrontation to divert attention from the “failure” of negotiations. |
