Warning on big match drink prices

Pubs across Glasgow have been warned that action will be taken if they increase their prices during high-profile football matches. Glasgow Licensing Board said it had received allegations that some bars charged more for alcohol during big matches, including Scotland games. Bailie Jim McNally, convener of the board, said current policy prevents the temporary increase of prices. He said: "We don't intend to name names at this stage." Those involved, said Mr McNally, would know the board was talking about them. "The board has heard allegations that some licensed premises have been seeking to make additional profit during high profile football games," he said. "The price at which alcohol is being sold must be the same throughout the entire day and be the same as that shown on the price list which must be prominently displayed at or near the bar. "I am quite sure that the licensed premises in question know we are talking about them." Mr McNally added: "If any further breaches of the board's policy in this regard are brought to the board's attention then appropriate action may be taken." |
