Disease-hit trees to be assessed

An avenue of trees in Culloden are to be assessed to see if they pose a risk to the public after early signs of Dutch elm disease were spotted.

The fungus eats around the bark and can kill the trees, leaving them in a dangerous condition.

Highland Council said trees in Culloden Drive were of mixed broadleaves originally planted as a beech avenue about 150 years ago.

The avenue includes species such as lime and birch.
