A police spokesman said: "The woman has characteristics corresponding to those of the woman who disappeared.

"Local police were working on the beach and saw a woman floating in a cave.
"She was wearing jeans and a blue shirt. They have taken the body to Palma's forensic institute to be identified.
"Her husband has not yet seen the body.
"At the moment the investigation is open. We are looking at a number of hypotheses. The investigation continues and the case is by no means closed."
