File sent over top security firm

A police file has been sent to the Public Prosecution Service concerning the largest security firm in Northern Ireland, Maybin, the BBC can reveal. In August the firm was found to have been operating for several months without the proper security licence from the Northern Ireland Office. Then an NIO spokesman said it was an offence to provide security services without this licence. A file has now been submitted to the PPS by police. The security licence in question is issued by the Northern Ireland Office, under the Terrorism Act 2000, which states employees need to be vetted if they are working in sensitive positions. Maybin had been operating without the correct licence for about 10 months. The company, which has now renewed the security licence, said the matter was an 'administrative error'. The Maybin group is one of the largest private sector employers in Northern Ireland with a workforce of about 6,500 people. It provides security staff for the courts, prisons and some government buildings. |
