A seven-year-old British girl is critically ill in hospital after falling from a balcony in Majorca. Police are searching for the mother of a five-year-old British girl who is seriously ill after plunging 30ft (10m) from a balcony in Majorca.
According to reports, the girl, who is from Cambridgeshire, was taken to hospital with a broken jaw and liver injuries, but is expected to recover. Gianna Cooper, from Cambridgeshire, was taken to hospital in Palma after the fall from the fifth floor of a hotel on Monday morning.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said the girl was in a serious but stable condition. She is said to be "serious but stable" after surgery.
Police are looking for the girl's mother, missing since the girl's fall from a hotel fifth-floor balcony. Ports and airports have been alerted in the search for Gianna's mother, who has not been seen since the fall.

The Foreign Office spokeswoman said they were aware of an incident involving "a minor, who fell from a balcony".
A woman at the Hotel Samoa in Calas de Majorca, on the island's east coast, confirmed a fall had taken place but said she could not give more details.

He said the family had taken two rooms at the hotel, one was shared by the father of the family and two boys, the other by the girl and her mother.
