Two Palestinian militants have been killed in a clash with Israeli forces in the Balata refugee camp near the West Bank city of Nablus. At least four Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military attacks targeting militants in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The men were identified by witnesses as members of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a group linked to the Fatah faction led by President Mahmoud Abbas. Two people were killed by Israeli tank fire in the Shejayah district in Gaza City. Israel said both were militants, but only one was confirmed by Hamas.
An Israeli spokeswoman said the two soldiers were lightly wounded. Shejayah was targeted in a missile strike earlier, with seven wounded.
Ibrahim Abu Munis and Hani Hashshash, both aged 25, were killed after Israeli forces surrounded a house in the camp. Meanwhile, in the West Bank, two militants were killed in clashes with Israeli forces in Balata refugee camp.
In Gaza meanwhile, where Israeli air strikes are continuing, Palestinian security officials said several people were wounded in a missile attack on the Shejayah district in Gaza City. An Israeli army spokesperson said troops had fired on two militants in Shejayah they suspected of planting an explosive device.
Hamas said one of those killed was a member of its organisation, but it was unclear whether the second person was a militant or civilian.
Earlier, Palestinian security officials said several people were wounded in the Israeli missile attack on the Balata camp.
