Appeal made to baby boy's mother | |

Officers trying to trace the mother of a newborn baby left on a doorstep in the West Midlands say they are concerned for the mother's welfare. | |
The boy, thought to be between 24 and 48 hours old when found and named Tom by nurses, was left outside a house in Tile Cross, Birmingham. | |
The child, who was cold when found but otherwise healthy, has been taken to Heartlands Hospital in east Birmingham. | |
Police said they would treat the mother with compassion if she came forward. | |
