Version 0 of 1.

A teenager was "left for dead" after being deliberately run over, the Old Bailey has heard.

Kate Sheedy, 18, was walking home after celebrating her last day at school when she was attacked in Isleworth, south-west London in May 2004.

She suffered a broken collarbone, a collapsed lung and internal injuries.

Levi Bellfield, 39, from West Drayton, west London, denies two counts of murder and five charges against three other women, including Miss Sheedy.

Brian Altman for the prosecution said: "Kate was quite deliberately driven at by a vehicle, run over and then reversed over and left for dead in the roadway."

Gravely injured

Miss Sheedy had been celebrating her last day at Gumley House Catholic school with her friends when she was targeted.

Mr Altman continued: "As she reached a traffic island in the middle of the road, the car switched its lights on, revved up its engine and drove off.

These women were targeted victims of a predatory man who stalked bus stops and bus routes in vehicles looking for young women to attack Brian Altman, prosecuting

"But it came back without warning. It did a U-turn and drove directly at Kate.

"She attempted to make a dash to the pavement but the car got to her before she could avoid it."

Local residents heard a bang followed by a scream but thought little of it, living as they did near a pub, the court heard.

Gravely injured, Miss Sheedy tried to crawl home but when she could go no further managed to phone her mother and an ambulance from her mobile phone.

She was taken to hospital where she was treated for her life-threatening injuries.

She has since had follow-up surgery and physiotherapy to help her walk again.

Now 21, Miss Sheedy continues to suffer from physical and psychological injuries.

Mr Bellfield denies the attempted murder of Miss Sheedy.

Mr Altman alleged Mr Bellfield also killed Marsha McDonnell, 19, in Hampton, south-west London in February 2003 and French student Amelie Delagrange, 22, at Twickenham Green, in August 2004.

He is also accused of attacking two other women after seeing them on buses or near bus stops.

Mr Bellfield is charged with the attempted murder of Albanian-bor hairdresser Irma Dragoshi, 33. He is also charged with causing Ms Dragoshi grievous bodily harm.

Mr Bellfield further denies the kidnap and false imprisonment of Anna-Maria Rennie, then 17, on 14 October 2001.

Earlier, Mr Altman told the court: "These women were targeted victims of a predatory man who stalked bus stops and bus routes in vehicles looking for young women to attack."

The case was adjourned until Tuesday.
