Version 0 of 1.

A boy who killed teenage footballer Kiyan Prince outside a north London school told police the fight was "all about street cred", a court has heard.

He cried as he described the playfight which led to 15-year-old Kiyan, who played for Queens Park Rangers' youth team, being stabbed in the heart.

The Old Bailey jury heard the 16-year-old told police: "I am hoping his [Kiyan's] mum can forgive me."

The boy denies murdering Kiyan on 18 May but admits manslaughter.

'Showing off'

In an interview following his arrest, the teenager from north London, who cannot be named because of his age, said he had known Kiyan.

He said he had greeted him when he saw him with another 15-year-old, known in court as Witness A, outside the London Academy in Edgware.

He told the courtroom that Witness A had been "showing off his chest and stuff like that. He was always doing that".

As he walked past, the defendant said he had asked Witness A: "What you think you are, big?" He then said to Kiyan: "What, you think you're big as well?"

He was asked by an officer: "So, it is all about street cred?" He then replied: "Yes."

'Not on purpose'

The defendant said he did not know he had stabbed Kiyan in the heart and was planning on giving himself up following the stabbing but just wanted to talk to his mother first.

He also told police how sorry he was about Kiyan's death.

He said: "I know how my mum would feel, so I know how his mum would feel as well.

"He [Kiyan] knows how sorry I am. If he was still alive he would probably have forgiven me, but he is not so I do not know.

"I hope his family know it was an accident and not on purpose. I did not do it intentionally."

The trial continues.
