A man died when he was struck by several vehicles as he walked on the M60 near Manchester, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have said. A teenager died when he was struck by a vehicle as he tried to cross the M60 near Manchester.
The man had been walking on the anti-clockwise carriageway near Junction 23 at about 1900 BST on Saturday, a GMP spokesman said. It is believed the 16-year-old had been one of four youths who were near a bowling centre in Ashton-under-Lyne when police were called on Saturday.
The motorway was closed in both directions for several hours but was later reopened. Three of the group ran towards the motorway and witnesses said two teenagers were seen crossing both carriageways but a third was hit.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police said he suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.
Officers had arrived at the Hollywood Bowl at Ashton-under-Lyne at about 1900 BST after reports of a disturbance.
Four youths were outside the complex as officers pulled up. Three ran out of sight and it is believed they crossed open land and went onto the embankment of the motorway.
The fourth was stopped nearby by police and was taken home to his parents.
However, one of the youths was seen to be hit by a vehicle as he tried to cross the anti-clockwise carriageway near junction 23.
The incident has been reported to Greater Manchester Police's internal affairs branch who have referred it to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
The motorway was closed in both directions for several hours but has since reopened.
