Version 0 of 1.

An inmate from Styal women's prison in Cheshire is suspected of having the lung disease Tuberculosis (TB).

The woman, who is believed to have arrived at the jail within the last few days, has been taken to a hospital to undergo treatment.

The Prison Service is now working with the Cheshire Primary Care Trust and Health protection Agency to make sure the infection does not spread.

TB is most commonly associated with its impact on the lungs.

In a statement, the Prison Service said it took the health of prisoners and staff very seriously and would be working closely with the relevant health agencies.

Tuberculosis can be spread when someone with the infection coughs, sneezes or talks and another person breathes in the bacteria.
