Light pollution is the bane of the modern stargazer. Here at the Guardian's London office, we have a better view of the blinking lights of the BT Tower than the heavens above. Those in search of a better view would be advised to head to Northumberland – its national park, along with the neighbouring Kielder water and forest park, has been awarded top status by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA).Light pollution is the bane of the modern stargazer.
