Version 0 of 1.

The United Nations General Assembly elected Jordan to the Security Council on Friday to replace Saudi Arabia, which after it won the seat in October rejected it to protest the Council’s failure to end the Syrian and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts. Arab countries chose Jordan as a replacement, and Asian nations endorsed it to take the traditional Arab seat on the Council. It won 178 votes. The Council has five permanent members with veto power — the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France — and 10 elected members that serve two-year terms.
