Police in Nottingham have started a murder inquiry after a man's body was found in a burning car.

Firefighters received a call about a car on fire on Tranby Gardens, Wollaton early on Thursday morning.

A man's body was found in a silver Mercedes SLK and a post-mortem examination has revealed he had been stabbed before the car was set on fire.

Police have yet to identify the man and have asked anyone with information to come forward.

The car has been removed from the scene for further forensic investigations.

The scene was sealed off for several hours on Thursday but the road has now reopened and officers are carrying out house-to-house inquiries.

Police would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen the car in the area before it was set on fire.
