A soldier from the Royal Engineers has been accidentally shot during a training exercise in Angus.

The incident happened at the Barry Buddon training camp near Carnoustie shortly before 1100 BST.

The man, who has not been named, was taken to Ninewells Hospital suffering from a gun shot wound to his leg.

The military base, which contains a shooting range, has been used as a training base for Britain's armed forces for more than a century.

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the man's injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

She added that the incident is now being investigated by military police.
